Applying foundation makeup

The application of a foundation is the key to a smooth, glowing skin tone. However, there are some things you need to know first before applying foundation makeup. Here are some basic rules that should be followed when making your product selection.

Foundation Is Key

Your foundation makeup is the key to whether your makeup will look good or bad. The application of a god well chosen foundation will help to smooth out your skin tone, conceal blemishes and leave you with a more healthy glow. Applying makeup without a good foundation base can and actually does enhance unsightly skin problems, rather than conceal them. But before you head out to the store, here are some basic rules that should be followed when making your foundation selection.

How Do I Choose A Foundation Makeup Base?

Firstly, you need to select the correct colour for your skin tone. Many times, people choose foundations that are either too light  making them look  washed out and pale, or too dark ; which often leaves a line of makeup between the jaw and neck. This definitely will make you look like you have decided to wear a mask, this is fine if you are going to a fancy Dress and intend to look like that but for a date or job interview it is a no no . The foundation colour that you choose must blend in with your natural skin tone.

Also you must keep in mind that your skin tone colour will change with the seasons. So in the summer for instance, you will most likely need a slightly darker foundation colour, as your skin will tan somewhat (even if not on purpose you will tan in the summer as you still need to go outside sometimes.) In the winter your skin will lighten again back to its original tone and you should use your natural base colour foundation makeup.

liquid foundation

Deciding Between Liquid and Powder Foundations

The next decision should be to determine whether or not you would prefer a powder foundation or a liquid foundation makeup. This tends to fall into personal choice as there is no right or wrong choice here, although there are pros and cons to both types.

Most women seem these days seem to prefer the liquid foundation base. As it seems to be a lot quicker and so much easier to apply. Once blended into the skin, the  liquid foundation makeup appears to be more natural and lighter, giving the skin a naturally smooth and all over even appearance. However, how it is applied can also make a difference. Applying too much will cause streaks and spots that look “heavier” than others on your skin. Using a makeup sponge rather than using a finger can help a lot with creating a smooth, even appearance. Always remember to apply a small amount of liquid foundation at a time and blend it into your skin carefully.

One other advantage of a liquid foundation is that it actually absorbs into yourskin rather than sitting on the top of it, so you get a more natural skin tone appearance. It also comes in a variety of bases to suit women with dry skin, normal skin, oily skin, combination skin, and sensitive skin types.

Powder foundations are much less of the popular choice, but can and does work just as well as any  liquid foundation makeup if you know how to apply it correctly. It’s so easy to apply and there is even less blending involved. They are also great for people that have very oily skin, as the powder will soak up the oil and prevent a greasy appearance. You can also carry a compact powder case with you on the days when you need to do a slight touch up to your makeup or on days that are hot and humid, to rid your face of that dreaded shine.

A slight problem with powders, however, is that they can look like they are caked on your face if applied to heavily or after a couple of hours in warm weather. They also tend to rub off on clothes easier since the powder sits on top of your skin.

Another Choice: Liquid-Powder Foundations

Liquid-powder foundation combinations are another choice that seems to be rapidly gaining in popularity. This type of  foundation  comes in a compact, much like powder bases, but contains a somewhat creamy mixture. Application of this foundation gives you a smooth appearance, almost like a liquid, but  with the absorption benefits of a powder. However, you will have to be very careful when applying this type of foundation, since a heavy application will give you a caked clown like appearance. Like the liquids, the key here is to apply it lightly and blend well. This combination is not the best for people with dry skin as it will also give you a horrible patchy skin like appearance. Choose this type of foundation only if you have normal to oily skin.

If this is the first time you are going to buy a foundation, you should visit a make-up counter that allows you to try out the various products or seek out a professional make-up artist to help you with your selection. For those that have a problematic skin, such as severe acne breakouts, I personally recommend that you should visit your dermatologist first. They can help you with making a wiser choice on the type of foundation would work best, plus will provide you with other skin care options to help clear up any underlying issues.

Remember, the best makeup techniques start with a good foundation that is appropriate for your skin type and skin tone. Be smart and take the time to research what is out there before spending money on any product. You’ll be happy you did.

Final Tip bottled water

And as always my final tip has nothing to do with make up but applies to all of us and it is this.

Stay hydrated drink plenty of water and eat plenty of fruit and veg

Tips for applying eye makeup

Our eyes occupy the most prominent place among the five sensory organs of our body. Large and beautiful eyes enhance one’s beauty manifold.

Tips for applying eye makeup and advice

Eyes occupy the most prominent place among the five sensory organs of our body. Large and beautiful eyes enhance one’s beauty manifold. Healthy eyes are directly related to our general health. I personally would advise to use eye make up very sparingly, for its excessive use damages the skin around eye. Also, remember never to use chemical eye make up remover because it reacts adversely on the skin. Applying smoky eyes makeup can make you the most attractive and beautiful woman. It is a good choice for drawing attention, also.

A very important thing to take into account is the eye shadow colour. If you are being very careful, smokey eyes are not so difficult to obtain. One of the advantages of this kind of makeup is that it will fit any face type. To start applying the smokey eyes makeup, first, apply a perfect eyeliner and the base eye shadow over the upper lid, blending with a base brush. The next step is to apply a clean colour over the eye, from eyelid to brow.

Eye makeup can be called  the fun part of applying cosmetics. Here are some very easy to follow tips for applying eye makeup

Use eye shadows that fit your  character or even to express your mood. Apply the lightest shade you have over the entire eyelid and the medium shade on the lower eyelid. It’s time to apply dark colours for creating depth. Best place for doing that is the outer corner. Next, apply a little eyeliner, from the centre of the eye to the corners. Finally, apply mascara. For dark eyes, black or dark brown is recommended. A dark brown eye shadow should be applied from the lid to crease, for a better effect. In the final, apply two layers of black mascara and work a little on your eyebrows for a strong smoky eyes makeup

Various Types of Eyes

As we all know there are various shapes to the human eyes. Accordingly your eye shape will determine how you apply the make up

Small eyes

Use a light shade of powder for the centre of your lid and a darker shade toward the outer edge.

Almond-shaped eyes

Use a light shade of powder from your lashes to the brow, a medium shade on your lid, and a darker shade on the outer third of your eyelid.

Round eyes

Using a light coloured shadow over the entire lid and a darker shade in the crease. Apply eyeliner on both the top and bottom lids, and use mascara on the upper outer lashes.

Wide-set eyes

Use a darker shade in the inner corner, blending up and out. Concentrate your  eyeliner and mascara on the inner corner of the eye.

Close-set eyes

Use one colour only, varying from a light to darker shade. Start with the lightest shade one-third away from the inner corner of your eye, blending darker shades up and out. Use eyeliner on the outer half of your eye.

Deep-set eyes

Use eyeliner on both the upper and lower lids, remembering to smudge and soften the line.

Eye make up tips

1. Use your eye shadows to reflect the mood you wish to project.

2. Apply the lightest shade over the entire eyelid.

3. Apply the medium shade on the lower eyelid.

4. Apply the darkest shade in the outer corner of the eye to create depth.

5. Apply eyeliner with short strokes, starting form.

6. The centre of the eye and working towards the corners.

7. Mascara finishes your makeup.

8. Do not wear bold eye makeup and a bold lipstick at the same time.

Unless of course this is the look you require for instance if you were going to a Fancy Dress like Halloween.

Final words

The above tips are intended as guidelines only. Please  ,if you are new to applying make up ,Practice -Practice -Practice and when you have done with your practice do it some more.

After all the old adages usually ring true in my personal opinion, and practice makes perfect as they say . And this perfection thingy is that which we are all after as no-one wants a clown face at the party .

Remember that the applying of any make up is to enhance the beauty you already posses not to detract from yourself and hide under a mask . When applying make up we are going for a certain look wether that be day to day work/business life or the weekend party time ,even a date on each seperate occasion your look and the type of colour to be worn are all different .

If after all your hard work at practice and applying eye shadow you are still not happy with the finished look book yourself an appointment with the local beauty parlour or failing that get yourself to the beauty counter at your local department store ; i am almost certain that most if not all will be happy to help you achieve your desired look.

One last bonus tip

bottled water

My last tip is as it will always be, has no make up advice at all. This is my tip for all, stay hydrated drink plenty of water .Eat lots of fruit and veg , exercise regularly . make sure to get adequate sleep daily.

a healthy skin will need much less make up than an unhealthy one .

Make up made easy

Giving a warm, natural colour of blood rushing to your cheeks – if you didn’t know, this is what blush does. Blush will and does gives depth and contour to your cheeks and accentuates your inner glow…

Make up made easy

This a guide for beginners and experts alike, read on to get the full story on one of the cosmetic industry’s best effects.

As was stated in the above blush gives a warm, natural colour of blood rushing to your cheeks. Blush gives depth and contour to the cheek areas and accentuates your inner glow. Now in todays’ world blush comes in a wide variety of shades, tones and hues which can and does confuse us on which shades are correct for your personal skin tone

1. Choosing the appropriate shade of blush for your skin tone

To be fair this a similar process to choosing the correct foundation, eye shadow or even concealer. As hard as it is to choose the correct one for yourself, unless of course you have knowledge of colour theory ;there is no need to fret or worry yourself silly. Todays’  blushers are indeed flexible enough to blend to your skin tone pretty easily. However, if you dive in at the deep end and go hell for leather (without practice) you can end up looking drained and washed out or even worse case scenario looking like you are about to audition for the circus.

2. What you need to consider

There is really only two things to take into consideration here and they are context and skin tone.

Skin tones

-Research your own skin tone find out where you fit in, are you a cool or warm skin tone?.

Yellow undertones, will allow the use of cool colours like, rose and pinkish plum or even a mauve.

-Those of you with olive skin tones will find the orange spectrum (peach, copper etc)very appropriate. While very dark skin tones( blue skin tones) will find auburn or even darker reds are really goods options to consider.

– For those of you with a neutral tone can usually but not always get away with nearly all colours or even none at all for those with a pinkish tone.

Skin intensity

-If your skin is a darker tone you will need a stronger colour of blush. As day follows night the lighter your skin the lighter your blush will have to be.

– Your blusher will have to have the correct intensity, as having an incorrect intensity will definitely ruin your look. For instance having a weak blusher for your tone will not be seen at all.

-Lighter skin toned ladies can use shades that range from the pale pinks through to the beiges’, for that translucent look apply a powdered blush over it.

– Now the medium tones call for the warm pinks, brown-based pinks or soft beige. For the olive-skinned, the recommendation here is, soft berries, honey beige, brown-red or even if you feel bold a plum pink .

– For those of you with a darker skin tone deep bronzes, soft mahogany or cocoa; are the orders of the day

– This is the part where you really do need to consider the colour of your eyes and hair. For those of you with either black or darker hair colour you will already know it tends to make your skin look paler,so try a stronger blush than the recommended shade .

– Blonde hair and tanned skins should really be using a neutral shade such as a bronzer. You should find this compliments your hair and tone quite well.

For red heads or those with louder coloured hair, try a peach as it competes with your blush.

– For those who wear make up more in the evenings I would suggest the softer more natural colours such as the warmer shades of pink, beige or even colours like peach and mauve. If you are after that sun kissed look I suggest a bronzer can be a great alternative to blusher.

3. Sure-fire blush selection, made easy!

To make your selection of blusher a bit easier for you, try doing a physical exercise like running up and down the hallway for a few minutes until the cheeks are pink.

You should now have the basic ideas of which palette is for you but as always if you are still struggling with right shade seek advice from your local make up counter as they have all the colour tools to hand and should always be happy to advice you .

4. Applying the Blush

When you are thinking of buying your blusher, you not know the real shade until you try it on If you’re thinking on buying a blush, remember that you won’t find out the real shade until you try it out. I suggest taking a sample and trying it out on your hand or for an even better comparison try a few samples of differing shade to your inner fore arms. What you are eliminating here in this process is the ones that stand out and ultimately getting the shade that doesn’t stand out.

The only true way to test and experiment with your chosen colours is to be in full face make up. This will tell you if your make up and blush are what is called balanced. The colour of your lipstick should match the colour of your chosen blush. Too really balance your look try applying a little blush to the tips of the nose and chin.

If when experimenting you put on too much blush, don’t panic just get yourself a nice dry sponge and dab to soften the colour. To make sure your blusher blends with your make up apply the blusher first so as not to compete with your lip colour and eye shadow.

Just keep in mind this will all be for nothing if you fail to apply your blush correctly so experiment and as always enjoy yourself.

7 Steps to Great Makeup

7 Steps to Great Makeup

When I first thought about writing this article, I could have written 100 tips but I decided on seven as when you break down most of the tips that are out there on the web I believe that most if not all can be put into one of these seven tips .

I hope you get some good starting points for you to take away and use in your daily routine.

makeuplifeuk too much

1. Avoid wearing too much

Yes that is number one in my list of 7 steps to great make up. Makeup is meant to enhance your features not to bring any negative attention to yourself. That is what wearing far too much makeup will do; it will bring you unwanted and unwarranted attention. In other words it brings attention which is in opposition to the attention you do want.

Don’t wear too much of anything such as:

I) Eyeliner: Not only will dark, thick eyeliner make you look overdone, it will absolutely ruin the rest of your makeup. It is also a waste of your precious time .

ii) Mascara: when you apply too much mascara this will look fake and ultimately your mascara will flake (usually in public). This looks terrible if it is also used with a thick eyeliner or dark shade of eye shadow.

iii) Foundation: It may sound obvious too most but there are women out there that still forget to colour match their skin with the foundation they are about to use. Make sure your foundation is the same colour as your skin. Foundation is meant to protect and give your face a smooth look. Blend is the word of the day Blend ladies.

iv) Powder:The same holds true for powder – do not apply too much. Be sure to blend your makeup so there are no visible lines. For both powder and liquid foundation blend it.

2. Lips

Make sure that the lip liner you apply completely covers your lips’, when you add colour your lipstick will stay on much longer. And the longer it stays on the lips’ means less reapplying meaning savings in the pocket (bonus). Make sure your lip liner doesn’t show. Also, just like foundation your lip colour should match your skin tone; so match accordingly wear cooler colours if you have a cool colouring and warmer colours if you have a warm colouring.

When you want your lips’ to look smaller, always keep your lip liner on the inside of your lips’. However, if you do decide to make your lips’ look larger than they are, going outside of your natural outline is a big mistake. In fact this is a huge mistake, it will look messy and quite unnatural.

3. Appropriate makeup

Always make sure you wear the appropriate makeup that is right for the occasion. For instance people don’t wear tight jeans for yoga. When you are only going to the local shop for bread and milk you wouldn’t wear the same type or even as much makeup as you would if you were attending the theatre for a date.

Your day to day makeup should be a lighter shade than what you would apply for a night out.

4. Too little or no makeup at all

Not all women wear make up some women don’t wear makeup and probably never will. At least some of them do not wear make up because they’re not sure how to use it and could be fearful of being overdone. When you are not sure, I suggest you start with light colours in your shade.

Start slowly and add one product at a time. Start with your foundation and build from there then add a little of your mascara, blush or lipstick. When you are one of the women who are not used to wearing any makeup at all, start slowly.

The take away from this tip is that a little is better than none at all. When you are feeling a little daunted and still unsure seek some advice from a local professional make up artist I am sure they would be happy to help.

5. Overall look

When you have completed applying your makeup it should look subtle and natural. This means learning about your colour palette so you can confidently avoid colours that will clash. When you have a darker skin and hair you will look better in darker colours and shades; if you use a lighter colour on your darker tones it will make you look washed out.

When you have hair and skin that is lighter in tone, lighter colours will look a lot better on you. Darker shades of makeup will make you look a lot older than you really are .

If skin is of an oily nature, you must first use an oil control moisturiser and foundation. After applying these make sure that you wear loose powder, keep a powder on your persons for later touch ups during the day.

6. Hair colour

hair colour

The colour of your hair should be of one accord with your skin tone.

For instance when you have a darker hair and you wanted to add a colour, keeping it as close to the same shade or very similar. Also, If your hair is of a lighter shade use lighter colours. As you age your skin lightens, so should your hair colour.

Just one more thing on hair colour , if you are a woman or a man even that does colour your hair; make sure you keep it up as letting your roots grow and show will ruin all the effort you have put into your make up regimen.

7. One last tip.

make up bag

Make sure you keep up your make up looking fresh all day, give yourself regular touch ups during the day .

Avoid letting your make up fade or crease during the day if you have to buy yourself a new make up touch up bag, keep your bag topped up and you should be ready to thrive in any given situation.

These are my 7 top tips for great makeup so stick to them learn the bits you need to improve .

And above all I will give you a bonus tip ,

Bonus tip

bottled water

This tip pertains not just too beauty and cosmetics but to all of us alive right now .

Stay healthy drink plenty of water, eat lots of fruit and veg. I believe this is the most beneficial tip of all time .
